Tadousac

Tadousac
When driving the North shore of the St. Lawrence everything changes once you get past Quebec City. The road goes from four lane down to a real narrow two lane, and suddenly there are hills the size of small mountains. Here the Lawrentians come right up to the coast and the road skirts the shore line in what ever way it can. The scenery is incredibly beautiful, with magnificent views of the river when you suddenly come around a bend. You get incredibly high hills that in turn run down into incredibly steep valleys. The road twists and turns, up and down with great walls rock and sweeping valleys. All pretty spectacular. Every 10 k or so you end up down by the shore again in a little bay with a town or village named after some saint from the past. That is, until you arrive in Tadousac. Tadousac in native Indian means “ two breasts “ because of the shape of two low mountains right above the bay where it sits. It’s right around the corner from the mouth of the Saguenay river and we had to take a ferry across the river to get there. Because the St Lawrence is salt water here already and the Saguenay dumps a pile of fresh water in at this point, this an extremely ecologically diverse eco system. It is also an excellent spot for whale watching since they seem to be attracted to this area. The whole area is very beautiful and remote feeling with great views from the hills above the town. We have found a nice camp spot up there, and we think we may stay for a day or so.
